The information superhighway was a nice phrase intended to interest people in the early internet. It promised that information would move freely, and people would benefit from the free exchange of information; nowadays the internet is both more dangerous and more policed, more financially productive, and at the same time, increasingly dominated by monopolistic interests and government intervention.
Individually, these phenomena could be neutral; taken together, they represent a rising tide of negativity which threatens to drown large numbers of individual users.
