Counting in the decades

Although some people argue that we’re not in the first year of the new decade, but the last year of the old one, that’s just a technicality. Much more important to us, as someone recently pointed out to me, are the moments of history, the historical, or epochal moments, by which we measure historical time. Recently, on January 31^st, the UK formally left the EU. However, so far nothing significant has changed. The end of January was a technical date of political power players, who will now continue in a political game that began in fact many years ago (sometime around the time of the reunification of Germany after the end of the Cold War).

Then there is also time measured by people’s lives.…
