Happy New Forecasting Year

As we enter 2017 there is the usual sense of anticipation and also the tendency to make forecasts. Why resist either of these impulses? Last year I limited my forecasts to economics, and also to general predictions. I didn't comment on the coming elections because I didn't have any confidence concerning the Brexit referendum or the US presidential elections, although privately I tended to expect the unexpected (ie. Brexit and Donald). Reading my views a year later, I suppose I should have risked more- so this year I am going to be more ambitious.
